Plasma screens are the winners in the colour, contrast and black level departments. Plasma screens have a few misconceptions attached to them which are not true anymore: they are as energy efficient as LCDs and LEDs, they do not suffer from burn in, they do not have shorter life spans and they do work in higher altitudes. Plasmas have almost instantaneous response times, or refresh rate, which means that watching TV with lots of movement on the screen, e.g. sport, will be sharp and clear. If you are buying a large TV, 46 inches or bigger, then your best bet will be a plasma screen as large backlit LEDs can get expensive. Lastly, plasmas have the best viewing angles when viewed from the side.

Which Is Better: Plasma, LCD or LED?

Before we start with LCDs you should know that LED TVs are LCDs, it is simply a different form of LCD which uses LEDs as a backlight instead of the regular CCFL backlight in LCDs. LCDs are the cheapest displays and have been around the longest, since the advent of LCD computer monitors. LCDs suffer from one major flaw which is the refresh rate, but they do trump Plasmas in a few departments like brightness which is very important if your TV room is quite bright itself. LCDs are way better than Plasmas if you watch Bluerays, DVDs or you play games on the display.

So to the verdict, which is better: plasma, LCD or LED? If everything mentioned here is taken into consideration then LED displays are your best bet. LEDs use the latest technology and are not likely to be phased out soon, which also means that their resale value will be the best if you decide to sell or upgrade later. The most important advice to remember from this article is that you should do your homework before you buy your next TV, as you will probably be living with it for a while.
